Audrey Elizabeth Kenyon peacefully passed onward and upward while surrounded by family on 29 June 2025 at the age of 91.
Audrey was born in Casper Wyoming in January of 1934, to her parents Harold Jefferson Masters and Hildegarde Agnes Waechter. Her Father died unexpectedly two years later and her mother moved her family to Glendale California to be closer to her brother Carl Waechter. Audrey grew up in Glendale. She graduated from Hoover High and went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of California Los Angeles in 1956. Audrey began teaching elementary school children in the Bay Area of California and later followed her brother Burton (Bud) to Los Alamos New Mexico where she continued to educate. Audrey taught second graders at Mesa Elementary school when she met and married Merrill Kenyon. Audrey and Merrill lovingly raised three children: Jesse, Matthew, and Kristin. Audrey loved backpacking, camping, traveling, homemaking, woodcarving, baking, cooking, sewing, quilting, family history, and gardening. She enjoyed entering flowers and later quilts in the county fair. She was a Den Mother a “Pink Lady” (Auxiliary Volunteer) at Los Alamos Medical Center, a substitute teacher, and later embarked on a nineteen year career as an Outreach Coordinator with the Los Alamos Senior Center where she received accolades for her work from the State Government. Audrey and Merrill spent their retirement years RV’ing with the Pajarito Sam’s as well as traveling the globe to places like Rome, Fiji, New Zealand, and Australia.
She was preceded in death by her husband Merrill, sister Mary Evelyn, and daughter-in-law Cecilia. She is survived by her brother Burton, her children Jesse (Tara), Matthew, Kristin; grandchildren: Jacob, Cody, and Grant.
She will be buried with her husband Merrill of 59 years in the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe per pre-arranged plans with DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM, after a Mass at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Los Alamos, NM. Mass will be on July 14, 2025, at 11:00 am and burial service will be on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 10:00 am.
