ARTURO ORTEGA, 82, a resident of Chimayo, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2017. Mr. Ortega was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Clara Ortega; son, Michael Ortega; parents, Anastacio and Gabrielita Ortega; brother, Roger Ortega; granddaughter, Sarah Faith Sandoval; parents-in-law, Jose Ramon and Sarita C. Medina; brother-in-law, Richard Medina and sister-in-law, Susana Duran. Arturo was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a hardworking, caring and giving person. He was always there to lend a helping hand and always had a great sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Ortega is survived by his daughters, Jennie Vigil and husband Billy of Albuquerque, Peggy Sue Vargas and husband Alfonso and Debbie Ortega all of Chimayo; grandchildren, Diane Ortega, Loretta Ortega, Rhonda Bridgen, Amanda Salas (Jose), Dominic Vigil (Vanessa) all of Albuquerque, Nathaniel and Daniel Vargas of Chimayo, Tara and Maria Sandoval both of Chimayo; 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Merejildo Ortega and wife Elma, Leo Ortega and companion Betty all of Chimayo, Tom Ortega and wife Helen and Harold Ortega and wife Linda of Albuquerque; sister, Grace Trujillo and husband Eddie of Española; brother-in-law, Dan Medina and wife Mickie; sisters-in-law, Connie Medina and companion Bill, Gloria Romero and Marshal all of Chimayo and numerous other family, relatives and friends. Public Visitation will begin on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish in Chimayo, with a burial to follow at El Potrero Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers, Nathaniel and Daniel Rey Vargas, Ricky Ortega, Gilbert Rivera, Bobby Vigil, Andrew Medina, Amanda Salas and Maria Sandoval. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
