Obituary

Arthur Max Marquez (Art), from Espanola went to meet his savior on May 9, 2026, at the age of 81. He was born in Dragerton, Utah on September 2, 1944. He was raised in Colorado. Moved to the Espanola Valley in 1963. He was employed by Hunter Tractor Company for 24 years and left as Parts and Service Manager. He then went to work for Los Alamos County in the fleet department for the next 20 years and retired as Fleet Supervisor. He enjoyed farming and was highly knowledgeable and skilled in the field of mechanics having acquired many achievements, qualifications, certifications, and awards. He enjoyed working on vehicles, tractors, implements, as well as heavy equipment. He was always willing to share his knowledge with others. His mechanical skills were well known. If tools were not available, he had an ingenuity for fabricating what he needed. He taught his sons to have good work ethic and to be responsible individuals.

He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, riding his ATV, and traveling. He enjoyed water activities such as swimming, water skiing, and boating. He parasailed over Lake Powell. He also experienced piloting a Cessna plane over Espanola and was excited to be able to see his home from the sky during instructional training. Everyone will miss his unique sense of humor that all looked forward to hearing.

He preceded in death by his parents Miguel and Lupita Marquez and brothers: Albert, Pete, Henry, Tony Marquez and sisters Adelina Vigil and Juanita Miranda. Also preceded in death by his Vigil family: Vidal Vigil, Joe, Sammy, Bernie, Raymond, Archie, Leornard, Arnold and Rosemary.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years (Ruby), sons Mike and Jude (Debbie). Grandchildren: Michael, Mitchell (Kristin), Rachel, Anna, and Jude. Four great grandchildren, Ethan, Haven, Marissa and Kane. Also survived by sisters Anita Palacios from Provo Utah, Barbara Martinez and Emelda Cook from Colorado Springs, and Angie Bullard from Las Vegas, Nevada. Surviving him are also his sisters and brothers in law: Vicky Padilla, Art Archuleta, Adelmo Archuleta, Patsy Martinez (Frank) Annabelle Guerra (Jorge) and Marylou Chacon (Tony). He is also survived by many nephews and nieces. He was a devoted husband, father, and great-grandfather. Family always being his priority.

The family would like to thank the Nurses from Del Corazon Hospice, especially Lynn and Jacob, and the rest of the staff for the excellent and professional care given.
