Arthur A. Martinez, born September 10, 1960, passed away peacefully at his home in Rio Chama, New Mexico, on June 20, 2026. Arthur was a man whose kindness, humor, and deep love for family shaped every part of his life. He believed wholeheartedly in the importance of family, and he reminded those around him—often and lovingly—that family is everything.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vitalia and Arsenio Martinez, his nephew Joshua Archuleta, and Little Marcos Sanchez, whom he now joins in eternal rest.
Arthur is survived by his devoted wife, Elizabeth Martinez, and by the children he cherished: Lloyd Gomez Jr. and Jennifer Ruybal (Anthony Ruybal Jr.). He was a proud grandfather to Lloyd’s children, Daniel and Angelica, and to Jennifer’s five children: Isabel, Marlena, Alisenya, Anthony III, and Aurelio. His grandchildren were his greatest joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them.
He is also survived by his siblings, Carmen and Tony Perez; Arsenio B. and Doris Martinez; Socorro and Marvin Sanchez; and Loretta and Rob Tapia. His nephews and nieces Jennifer and Anthony Perez, Chris and Derek Martinez who was like a brother to Arthur, Marcos and Victoria Sanchez, Beatrice and Vitalia Archuleta. Arthur leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever remember his warmth and generosity.
Arthur had a special gift for art, especially in creating santos on wood slabs, a craft he poured his heart into. His artwork reflected his spirit of thoughtfulness, soulfulness, and rooted in tradition. He also had a deep love for animals, caring for them with the same gentleness he showed everyone in his life.
Arthur will be remembered for his kind heart, his sense of humor, and the unwavering love he held for his family. His legacy lives on in the stories shared, the art he created, and the countless lives he touched.
A Rosary will take place on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. and a Mass at 11:00 a.m.at Sacred Heart Church in Espanola, NM. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
