Antonio Maestas

Antonio (Tony) Maestas, 88, a resident of Española, formally of San Pedro was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. He was preceded in death by his father, Tony V. Maestas, mother, Elsie Q. Maestas; sister, Violet Turietta; brother-in-law, Pete Turietta; nephew, Lawrence Turietta. Mr. Maestas was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He worked for more than 25 years in Los Alamos and retired in 1980, after retirement he enjoyed working outdoors in his garden planting flowers and keeping his yard in tip top condition.  Mr. Maestas was 22 years old when he joined the United States Army and was released as an honorary discharge as a Corporal, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Organization. Mr. Maestas was a member of El Buen Pastor Church and loved having fellowship with his church family. He would ask his Pastor if he could play special songs with is harmonica and would attend church services as much has his health would allow. A special thanks to the Espanola Valley Nursing and Rehab Facility for their care and support where Mr. Maestas was a resident for his last few years of his life here on earth, many of the staff that formed a special relationship with him. Special thanks to Henry and Sandra Anderson who treated Mr. Maestas with exceptional love and care. He is survived by his wife, Cora Maestas; daughter, Ann Marquez and husband Rafael (Ralph); grandchildren, David Marquez (Angel), Daniel Marquez (Sophie) and Sarah Marquez; great-grandson, Zayden Marquez; brother, Lupe Maestas (Sally), sister, Holivama Rackley (Cliff); God-Children, Dallyn Sierra, Danielle Aragon, Debbie Swanson, Benito Vigil and Anette Knight; special niece he loved like a daughter, Sophie Ann Sierra (Paul);  and many nieces and nephews that loved him. Funeral service will take place Monday, October 2, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at El Buen Pastor Church. Burial will follow at 2:15 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers are David Marquez, Daniel Marquez, Alex Zamora, Alex Jr. Zamora, Antonio Maestas, and Raymond Maestas, honorary pallbearers are, Rafael (Ralph) Marquez, Matthew Sierra, Paul Sierra, Lupe Maestas, CB Romero, Zayden Marquez and Sarah Marquez.
