Angie Susan Gutierrez-Serrano, lovingly known to all as "Honey," passed away on May 9, 2025, at the age of 66. Born on August 4, 1958, in Chama, New Mexico, to Jose Dolores and Antonia Maria Gutierrez, Angie was a beacon of love, faith, and compassion throughout her life.
Angie lived with an open heart and open arms—she didn’t just welcome people into her life; she made them feel like they had always belonged. She never met a stranger. Her laughter was infectious, her wisdom timeless, and her presence comforting. Whether you were family, a friend, or someone she’d just met, Angie made you feel seen and loved.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend. She poured her soul into every role she held. Her love for God guided her every step, and her faith never wavered, even in the most challenging moments.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Rhonda Gutierrez and son Walter Serrano; parents, Jose and Antonia Gutierrez; in-laws Benicio Serrano Sr., Fidelia Serrano, and Mary Serrano; sisters Maria Lucero and Theresa Brown; brother Horacio Gutierrez; brothers-in-law Gilbert Valdez, Anthony Gutierrez, and Cristoval Lucero; nephews Michael Smith Jr. and Jesus Martinez; and nieces Vickie Valdez and Andrea Vigil.
Angie is survived by her devoted husband and partner of 34 years, Benicio Serrano Jr.; children, Antoinette Lucero (Jason) and Joseph Serrano; and her cherished nephew Lee Gutierrez (Crystal), whom she loved as a son. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Sean Ulibarri (Nadine), Ashton Ulibarri (Abran), Jonathan Coriz Jr., Tristan Coriz (Jocelyn), Aiden Coriz, Mikayla Lucero, Donovan Lucero, and Micah Serrano. Her legacy also lives on in her precious great-grandchildren, Elias Valdez, Oaklynn Coriz and Mila Grace.
She is also survived by her sisters Rosa Valdez, Seneida Thompson, Josephine Hargrove, and Evelyn DeCosta (Dwayne); brothers Robert Gutierrez (Pat) and Fermin Gutierrez (Jane); and many dear in-laws: Ronnie Serrano (Nellie), Fidel Serrano Sr. (Prescilla), Evelyn Gutierrez, Grace Serrano, Dorothy Serrano, and David Brown and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Angie was a proud godmother to Angelica “Pita” Martinez, Corina Vigil, Elena Lucero, Phillipe Lucero, Joseph Gutierrez, and Daniel King. She also shared a treasured, lifelong friendship with her “Buckaroo,” Cyndi Salazar.
Angie’s legacy of kindness, faith, and unconditional love will continue to shine through the lives of those she touched.
