Obituary

In Loving Memory of Carmen Dofflemeyer

It is with heavy hearts that we honor the life of Carmen Dofflemeyer, a woman of deep faith and lifelong dedication to her community.

A devoted, lifelong Catholic, Carmen served with distinction as the secretary for the front office at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi for twenty-three years, from 1975 to 1998. Her commitment to her faith extended far beyond her professional life; she became a professed member of the Secular Franciscan Order on November 9, 1969. Through this order, Carmen was instrumental in founding essential community traditions, including the washing of the feet for pilgrims during Holy Week at the Santuario de Chimayó and the organization of the annual Lenten meal on Good Friday. Additionally, beginning in 2001, she served faithfully as a member of the Altar Society for twenty-five years.

Carmen was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Dofflemeyer, who passed away in 2020.

She is survived by her loving children: daughter, Donna Carl; son, Anthony Dofflemeyer; and daughter, Henrietta Dofflemeyer DeAguero. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Claudette DeAguero, Joshua DeAguero, Chad Carl, John Dofflemeyer, and Kristine Dofflemeyer.

The Secular Franciscan Order will conduct a service and Rosary prior to the Funeral Mass, which will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, to begin at 7:30 am at Santa Maria De La Paz Catholic Church (11 College Avenue in Santa Fe, NM.

The family of Carmen Dofflemeyer has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the beautiful Espanola Valley.  505-747-7477
