ANDREW ORTEGA, 32, a resident of Hernandez, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019 in the line of duty. He was preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca “Lulu” Ortega. Andrew was a member of the 91st Engineer Battalion of the 1st Calvary Division, III Corps and Fort Hood. He previously worked at the Ohkay Owingeh Casino as a security officer. Mr. Ortega is survived by his wife, Kanora Ortega (Martinez) of Ohkay Owingeh; father, Emilio Ortega of Hernandez; brothers and sisters, Jason and David Ortega of Española, Darlene Ortiz (Lovato) of Ohkay Owingeh and Iris Ortega and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a wake service to begin at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. also in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home, with a burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be, Jason Ortega, David Lovato, Darlene Ortiz, Hermengildo Quintana, Lindbert Martinez, Austin Martinez, Michael J. Martinez and Waylon Callado, Jr. The family of Andrew Ortega has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
