Jose Ramon “Amadeo” Ortiz, 73, a lifelong resident of Nambé, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026. Born to Amadeo and Victoriana Ortiz, he entered the world November 25, 1952, on a beautiful snowy day in Nambé. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a caring grandfather, uncle, brother, and an exceptional friend.

Amadeo met the love of his life, Marcella (Trujillo) of Jacona, while they were in high school. From that moment on, they built a life together, rooted in love, faith, and family. They shared a lifetime of memories in Nambé. They started their family in 1971 with the birth of their first son Nathan, followed by their sons AJ and Estevan. One of his greatest joys was watching his family grow. The love that he had for his wife and sons continued onto his daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, each of whom had a special place in his heart.

He had a gift for bringing life wherever he went. His knowledge and legendary green thumb transformed gardens into places of beauty. He found peace working in nature - whether tending to vibrant flowers, growing vegetables for family meals, or creating breathtaking landscapes - he cared for every living thing with patience, gratitude, pride and love. He was a hard-working man and a jack of all trades, who spent most of his working years as a professional groundskeeper. His talent, devotion and meticulous attention to detail left a lasting mark on every space he tended – earning recognition in Better Homes & Gardens magazine. His gardens reflected who he was - thoughtful, creative, and full of life.

Amadeo’s wisdom came not only from the years he lived, but from the way he lived them. He had a gentle soul, a kind heart, and an immeasurable amount of generosity. He had a gift for sharing stories, offering advice and teaching through the simple example of his character. But perhaps one of the things he will be remembered for the most, was his incredible sense of humor. He was one of the greatest joke tellers, always quick-witted, and ready to make everyone laugh - bringing lightness, joy and creating lasting memories.

He found happiness in life's simple blessings - casting a fishing line, hunting with his sons, and dancing to his favorite songs. Later in life, he became interested in painting, sketching often, and having paint nights with his grandson Tyler. He enjoyed his daily conversations with his devoted sister Dora, feeding the birds and tending to his home in Nambé. He lived a simple life, never wavering in his values, his generous heart, or his everlasting love for his family. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome, loved and valued - and that is a gift that will carry on.

Amadeo was preceded in death by his loving wife Maria Marcella Trujillo Ortiz. Grandfather Jacobo Garduno, father Amadeo Jose Ortiz, and mother Victoriana Ortiz - all of Nambé; Brothers Lino, Vicente and Charles Ortiz; Brothers-in-Law Dimetro Romero, Crecencio “Ketchie” Baca, Jerry Garcia and Patrick Roybal; Sister-in-Law Adele Roybal; Nephews Anhel Garcia, Adrian Ortiz and Marcos Trujillo; and Niece Jovanna “Jovi” Baca.

He leaves behind his sons, Nathan (Adrianna) Ortiz of Española, Amadeo James “AJ” (Claudette) Ortiz of Albuquerque, and Estevan (Santana) Ortiz of Rio Rancho. Grandchildren Brandon (Noel) Ortiz of Ojo Caliente, Kaitlyn and Dylan Ortiz of Española, Josette (Brandon) Mendoza and Tyler Ortiz of Hernandez, Derek, Dominik, Davian and Mia Rose Ortiz of Albuquerque; Great Grandchildren Zayden, Mateo “MJ” and Ava Mendoza of Hernandez; Brother Leroy (Ruby) Ortiz of Nambé; Sisters Violeta Roybal of Arroyo Seco, Josina Ortiz of Nambé, Elvira Ortiz y Garcia of Nambé, Dora Lee Ortiz of Nambé, Annie Ortiz y Scovel (Clint) of Nambé; Sisters-in-Law Miranda Ortiz of Nambé, Julia Ortiz of Hernandez, Lori Baca of Stanley, and Vicki (Chi) Mui of Denver; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other loving relatives and friends.

The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to all the family and friends for all the condolences, phone calls, texts, visits, and for the shared memories of Amadeo.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Sagrado Corazón de Jesus Church in Nambé, New Mexico, located at 192 NM-503, Santa Fe, NM 87506. Immediately following, Amadeo will be laid to rest with his beloved father in the Nambé Catholic Cemetery.
