ALICHIA M. SANCHEZ, 52, born in Santa Fe on October 29, 1968 and a resident of Santa Cruz went to be with our Lord on Friday, January 8, 2021. Alichia was preceded in death by her father Peter F. Sanchez Sr., her maternal grandfather Elmer “Tata” J. Torres, paternal grandparents, Jerry and Lydia Sanchez; uncles, Elmer J. Torres Jr., and Lawrence Sanchez; mother-in-law, Evangeline Valencia and cousin Vangie Gonzales; father of her son, Kenneth Valencia.

Alichia enjoyed meeting people and liked joking around and giving people carrilla. She loved attending the Hispano Music Awards with her son Arthur, watching Disney movies especially The Little Mermaid. She enjoyed attending and supporting bingo at the Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart, going to the casino and concerts and playing games on her cell phone. Alicia was an activity director at Casa Rael in Santa Fe, then moved on to teaching careers at Manderfield in Santa Fe and YDI Head start where she eventually became an administrator. She was also a Slot Attendant at the Ohkay Casino. Alichia was also a life-long member of the Carmalites in Santa Cruz, and a member of the Youth Group SEARCH at St. Anne’s Church in Santa Fe.

Alichia is survived by her son, Arthur Valencia; Dolores (Lolly) Sanchez (Mother), Peter F. Sanchez Jr. (brother); Isabel “Nanny” Torres (grandmother); Donald Archuleta (companion); Jonathan and Roberta Valencia (step-children); aunts  and uncles Rose and Bernie Gonzales (Tucson); Mary Sanchez (San Manuel); Tony and Cheryl Sanchez (Los Luceros); Jerome and Valerie Sanchez (Los Luceros); God-children Crystal and Angel Triste (Tucson), Christy and Admire Gutierrez (Espanola; close cousins Dorothy Gonzales (Tucson); Donald Gallegos (Scottsdale), Gina Sanchez and Sergio Herrera (Los Luceros); Jerome Sanchez and Savannah Salazar (Nambe), Harold Sanchez (The Blue Ventures) and many other relatives and friends.

Special thanks to her physician Dr. Leonard Romero (Albuquerque), the technicians and nurses at the Espanola Dialysis Center that made dialysis treatments mire tolerable. A special thank you to Fr. Dennis Kaggawa, Fr. Larry Brito and Fr. Terry Brennan for all the love, faith and support that they provided to her. And a very special thank you to Johnny DeVargas for taking care of our loved one for her final journey.

A rosary will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be held at holy Cross Cemetery.  Serving the family as pallbearers will be Arthur Valencia, Gina Sanchez, Peter Sanchez Jr., Donald Archuleta, Mario Ward and Vince Salazar, honorary pallbearers are Donald Gallegos, Crystal Triste, Angel Triste, Christy and Admire Gutierrez, Jerome and Tony Sanchez.
