Alfred John Roybal, Jr. 36, a resident of Arroyo Seco, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 9, 2013. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Martin and Maria Roybal; Maternal grandparents, Jose Alberto and Martha Lopez; beloved niece he helped raise, Mercedes Roybal; brother-in-law, Adam Villarreal and uncles, Patricio, Benito and Martin Junior Roybal. Alfred served as a police officer for the Los Alamos Police Department for 11 years and also served previously with Taos and Santa Fe Police Department. His greatest loves were his family, camping, fishing, motorcycles and spending time with his father, Alfred and son Mateo, who were his best friends. Mr. Roybal is survived by his wife, Katya Roybal; parents, Alfred and Beatrice Roybal; children, Kaitlyn, Mateo, Nicolas and John; sisters, Marsha Villarreal and companion Terry and Vanessa Roybal, nephews, Peter, Ignacio and Johnny Villarreal and Joshua Roybal; aunts and uncles, Mony Smith, Joe and Marcella Lopez, Albert and Dolores Roybal, Peter Lopez, and Christine Roybal; mother-in-law, Dee Martinez; sister-in-law, Cassandra and Phil McKenzie, Letrisha and Vincent Gallegos, Natasha and Rick Betterton; brother-in-law, Brian Davis; beloved cat, Shakira and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and other relatives and many friends. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at Northern New Mexico Community College with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada. Burial to follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Santa Cruz with the following serving as pallbearers, Joshua Roybal, Ignacio and Johnny Villarreal, Nico Gonzales, Eddie Rios, and Jeff Archuleta. Honorary pallbearers named are Peter Villarreal, Julian Martinez, Kevin Purtyman, Doug Ehler, Steve Pacheco, Fermin Garcia, Darold Valencia and the Los Alamos Police Department. The family of Alfred Roybal, Jr., has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
