Albert Freddie Vigil Jr.

Albert (Bert) Freddie Vigil Jr, of Chimayo, NM,  was called home, by our Lord God on August 10th, 2026. Bert had a profound love for his family or as Bert would say, “Amor”, which meant to Bert he would protect his loved ones at all costs. Bert’s written words were “I do have a higher power, and it’s not me, the spirt of peace, truth, righteousness, salvation, and spiritual warfare is my higher power. My strength is drawn from the Holy Spirit, I will rely on and have the willingness to trust, as I surrender to the Holy Spirit”. Bert was an avid outdoors man who loved the wilderness, this is where he found his freedom. His passion for being in the mountains started at a very young age. Bert would go with his Dad, Grandpa’s, and Tio David where he learned stream fishing, hunting and going for wood, as well as horseback riding. As Bert got older, his brother, cousins, and friends accompanied him to the Sierra. Kenny mentored Bert in sports and music. We wound find them being mischievous and creating adventures day after day.

Bert was an amazing Chef and excelled in restaurant hospitality. Bert was experienced and skilled using his chainsaw. Bert could also be found selling wood, spending time at the casino, or you could find him loading scrap metal to sell with his dad by his side. Bert had a love for music and was a great dancer, and dance he could, as his smile lit up the room.

Bert graduated with honors from McCurdy high school, class of 2000 where he excelled in all areas of academics and athletics. His friends and families from high school were very dear to him.

Bert was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Felipe and Bernie Valdez. Paternal grandfather Jose Ramon Vigil, Uncles, Gabriel, Sotero, and Dennis. Cousins Kenny, Aaron, Gabriel “Bobo”, Erika, Christopher, “Lizards” Gabriel, Claudette, and Angel Carlos.

Bert is survived by his parents, Albert and Angela, brother Marcos (Hannah). Children Jerome, Destiny (Mark) and his grandson Khalil. Nieces and Nephews Zuriel (Zack), Jayla and Marcos. Grandmother Aurelia. Uncles and Aunts Rosie (John), Archie (Annabelle), God Parents Sandy (Howard), Marilyn and Lillian Martinez. Cousins, Leo and Juanita Ibarra showered Bert with many blessings. Bert also had many cherished cousins, and friends.

The Visitation and Rosary will be held at DeVargas Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, starting at 1:00 pm, with the Rosary to begin at 1:30 pm. 

A Mass will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 1:30 pm at the Holy Family Parish in Chimayo, NM, with a burial to follow at Nuestra Senora del Carmen Cemetery in Chimayo, NM.
