Albert Alfonso Roybal

Albert Alfonso Roybal, age 79, of Santa Cruz, NM, born April 1946, passed away on August 19, 2025, of natural causes.

Albert was born in Jaconita and went to school in Pojoaque Valley and graduated in 1965.

Albert has one Son from a previous relationship. In June 1969, Albert married Dolores Roybal from Santa Cruz and had four children. They were married for 54 years before Dolores passed away.

Albert was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents Alberto and Macaria Roybal; brother Bobby Donaciano; sisters Rosina Louella and Adele Roybal; brothers-in-law Alfred Roybal, Joe Lopez and Jason Smith; sister-in-law Marcella Lopez; daughter-in-law Phaedra Roybal; granddaughter Vanna Ortega, Marcy Lopez and Mercedes Roybal; nephew’s Joey Lopez, Michael Lopez, Alfred Roybal and Joshua Roybal.

Albert is survived by his daughter Judy M. Roybal (Carlo); sons Daniel E. Lopez, Michael Richardson, Albert R. Roybal (Anna), Bryant N. Roybal (Debbie), Carl G. Roybal; Sister Irene Trujillo (Bobby); sister-in-Law Ramoncita Smith and Beatrice Roybal; brother-in-law Peter Lopez; grandchildren Ashlee Roybal (Corine), Zachary Roybal (Alba), Arianna Roybal (Ivan), Katlyn Roybal, Shayna Roybal (Brian), Chantel Richardson, Brett Richardson, Aliyah Roybal, Tristan Roybal, Charlie Roybal, Christine M. Stoliby (Nathan), Julian Bourquet (Cheyanne), and Jordan Bourquet; great-grandchildren Bowen G. Roybal, Collins M. Roybal, Elsie L. Roybal, Nevaeh T. Stoliby, Nicholas A. Stoliby, Nathan K. Stoliby, Mackenzie Richardson, and Amari J. Benjamin.

Albert was incredibly well-read, and his curiosity and vast knowledge base ran deep. He played both electric and acoustic guitars in his younger years and was a sensational cook of New Mexico cuisine.

He loved arguing politics and was a great storyteller and firm believer in creative reality so each time he re-told a story, or re-re-told it, it got bigger and better and more colorful than the last telling, especially if a new audience member was present.

His humor was absolute and unchallenged. Being let into his little world of jokes, silly references, and irreplaceable advice was unlike anything on this earth. He had a captivating way with words; he maintained his mental sharpness and enjoyed sharing his ancestral history.

Albert was gregarious, outgoing, and easily engaged with anyone he met, but was a bit of a tease. He was tolerated by many, and his keen wit kept us all on our toes and was loved all the more for it.

Albert also had an endless supply of opinions, which he was always more than willing to share. You didn’t even have to ask for one. He just knew when you needed to hear his view.
