Rosina Martinez

d. January 15, 2022

Rosina T. Martinez, our beautiful and beloved mother and grandmother passed into eternal rest January 15, 2022 after a brief battle with COVID.

Rosina was born in Tierra Amarilla April 28, 1939 to Cruz and Delphina Serrano Trujillo. In 1958, Rosie married Reynaldo S. Medina and together they brought six children into the world: Joseph Medina, Dianne (Fernando) Barbosa, Greg Medina, Victoria (Vickie) Luviano, Rosina Kathy Medina and Steve (Janet) Trujillo. Her youngest son, Ernie Archuleta, Jr. was born during her marriage to Ernesto Archuleta.

Rosina was known throughout her life as a very generous person. Even as a young girl in school who was privileged, she shared all her lovely clothing with less fortunate girls so everyone had a dress for the dance or prom. She was generous and kind, always giving with love. Rosina loved, period. There was no better mother or friend to have in this life.

When her children were little and the family lived in TA, Rosina worked for the Chama Valley Schools as well as the family business, Northwest Abstract Company. After moving to Espanola, she worked for the Espanola Public Schools and owned and operated her bridal shop, Rosina’s Dress Shop, creating magnificent gowns by hand. During her second marriage, she co-owned and helped run Bloch’s Furniture Store, which later became Ernie’s Furniture on Onate Street. She also owned and operated Arriba Title Company. Her last jobs were working for the RA County Senior Citizens Center and as a home health aide for Ambercare, which she did until her illness took her.

Rosina’s greatest loves were the Blessed Sacrament and her family, in that order. She as a devoted member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society and was instrumental in bringing Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament to the Valley at Sacred Heart Church. A Chapel was made and prayer has gone on there 24/7 since 1989, with Rosina covering any hour that didn’t have an adorer. She will always be remembered for graciously showing the presence of Christ in her every living moment.

Rosie lived for her children and grandchildren, and instilled a strong work ethic and rules for life in her kids. She was always near to lend a hand or offer wise, motherly advice; always patient and never judging. What an honor it was to call her our Mom, Mother Dearest, Ma, Rosie Pie, Mominy, Mama and Laiza, as well as Grams, Grammy and GG.

Rosina was preceded in death by her parents Cruz and Delphina, a baby brother Juan De La Cruz, her son Ernie and her beloved husband Eloy Martinez, all her maternal and paternal aunts and uncles, as well as close friend Ruben Lopez, whom she took care of like a son until his death.

She is survived by her six children and her dear grandchildren Leslie Barbosa (Frank), Christina Spangler, Daniel Barbosa (Natalie), Roque and Ezra Luviano, Adrian (Sabrina), Vicky (Sean) and Erica Castillo, Jose (Che) Castillo, Eva Munoz, Remedy Griego, Stephen (Kristi) and Zachary Trujillo, Mendie Trujillo, Ernest, Heather and Justine Archuleta. She had 21 great-grandchildren, one great-great and one on the way. She is survived by many cousins and friends whom she loved and who loved her dearly.

Funeral services for Rosina will be held February 18, 2022 at Sacred Heart Church of Jesus Church in Espanola, with the Most Holy Rosary at 11:30 am, Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 and internment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. A to-go ONLY meal will be offered after the burial.
