Mariano Maestas

MARIANO HERMINIO MAESTAS, 103, a resident of Chili, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at his home in Chili, New Mexico. Mariano is preceded in death by his parents, Felix Maestas Sr. and Sofia; siblings, Amabel “Mabel” Cordova, Ubaldo Maestas, Sister Felicia, and Felix Maestas Jr., Francequita “Francis” Atencio and Maria Clorinda “Clora” Archuleta. Mariano E. Maestas was born in Chili New Mexico to Sofia and Felix Maestas Sr. on April 1, 1914. He married Dora Estella Maestas on February 21, 1949 in San Juan Pueblo. He had many occupations throughout his life, the last of which was for the New Mexico State Human Services Department where he had worked for over 10 years and retired in 1976. After his retirement he spent his days enjoying life, tending to his garden, going for hikes near the hills of the Rio Del Oso, and spending quality time with his family. Mariano is survived by his wife Dora Estella Maestas; 9 children, Larry Maestas and wife Janice, Elmer Maestas, Clovis Maestas and wife MaryVivian, Diana Lopez and husband Irvin, Alex Maestas and wife Carol, Melva Contreras and husband Daniel, Eva Maestas, Belinda and husband Pablo, Mary Martinez and husband Aaron; sister, Celedonia “Sally” Barela, as well as 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, June 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez. The family of Mariano Herminio Maestas has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
