Margaret Guenette

d. May 7, 2016

Margaret Anne Guenette, age 90, of Los Alamos, NM, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, May 7, 2016, surrounded by her family.  Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Mary Celia (Kontz) Toth; her infant son, John Peter; and her sisters, Mary (Toth) Lawler, and Helen (Toth) Pelrine.
Margaret is survived by her devoted spouse of 58 years, John Guenette; four daughters (all of Los Alamos, NM) Yvonne Guenette Salaz; Elaine Guenette, Emily Kluk (husband Michael), and Ellen Marie Guenette; six grandchildren, Brandon Kluk (wife Bethany) of Bremerton, WA, Chandra Kluk (fiancé Jon McDonald) of Grand Junction, CO, Nichole Kluk of Denver, CO, Nolan and Cottrell Fox of Los Alamos, NM, and Aaron Salaz of Los Alamos, NM; three great-granddaughters, Madalyn, Michaela, and Macyn Kluk of Bremerton, WA; three siblings, George Toth (wife Ann) of Bedford, MA, Leona McDonald of Everett, MA, and John Toth (wife Jeanne) of Hudson, NH; her many nieces and nephews in the New England area; her dear friends Mary Lilley, Ernie Keady, and Nora King; and her dedicated nurses and doctor, Lindsay Baca, Sande Cremer, Crystal Ballew, and Michelle Carr, MD.
Margaret was born in Everett, MA, on November, 23, 1925, and spent her youth and early adult years in Everett.  After high school, she worked as a clerk at the John Hancock Insurance Company in Boston and then at Vance Sanders & Company (an investment management firm).  At that time, her sister, Helen, and her fiancé, Larry, introduced Margaret to John Guenette, an industrial photographer for EG&G, and they were eventually married on November 17, 1957.  The couple settled first in Malden, MA, and then in Saugus, MA, where they welcomed four lovely daughters:  Yvonne (1958), Elaine (1960), Emily (1962), and Ellen Marie (1968).  In 1970, John’s job at EG&G was re-located to Los Alamos, NM, so the family moved and has remained ever since.  Margaret was a dedicated homemaker and was a second “mom” to many of her children’s friends.  Margaret also lovingly cared for her grandkids when they were young establishing a nurturing bond with them at an early age.  She was wise, a great listener, and had a kind and loving spirt about her that will be missed by all.
Funeral Services for Margaret will be made in conjunction with her dear friend Dorothy Kluk.  Dorothy (mother-in-law of Emily (Guenette) Kluk), preceded Margaret in death by ten days so a dual service will be held for both of these wonderful women.  All services will be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) Catholic Church in Los Alamos, NM.  A Rosary will be recited on Sunday evening, May 22, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow.  Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at Guaje Pines Cemetery following the reception.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the IHM Christian Concern Committee (3700 Canyon Rd, Los Alamos, NM, 87544) or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.  The family of Margaret Guenette has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home and & Crematory of the Espanola Valley, 505-747-7477, www.devargasfuneral.com.
