Louis Sandoval (Louie)

d. January 28, 2018

Louis Francis James Sandoval (Louie), age 56, passed away on January 28, 2018 after a strong and brief fight with cancer. Louie was born in Santa Fe, NM on June 21, 1961 to Presiliano and Dora Sandoval.  He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Apolinar and Pablita Sandoval; maternal grandparents, Felimon and Anita Sandoval; brothers-in-law, Art Martinez and Edgar Lopez; and great niece, Abigail Dean Lopez. Louie was a kind, gentle soul who was always willing to help others.  Everything he did for his family and others was done with pure joy and selflessness.  One of Louie’s friends, upon learning of his death, said he was “larger than life in his good deeds and personality” and those who had the fortune of knowing him knew that this was true.  Louie always had a huge, bright smile on his face no matter what his mood or struggles were and his smile was often infectious.  He loved sports, especially basketball, baseball, and volleyball.  His love for basketball started when he was very young, back when short shorts and converse basketball shoes were the fashion.  He played on the Pueblo Junior High and Los Alamos High School basketball teams and was known to be the fastest player on the team.  His love for basketball continued into his adulthood when he was a NMAA basketball referee and would drive the activity bus for the high school basketball teams every chance he could get.  Louie also loved baseball and volleyball.  His love for these two sports began when his children became involved in them.  It was evidenced by the fact that he would watch nearly every broadcast of the Arizona Diamondbacks and was present at almost every LAHS volleyball game for the last three years. When Louie wasn’t doing things for others, smiling, or participating in some sort of sporting event, he could be found eating carne seca, helping his family in Truchas, driving some sort of truck or heavy equipment, being Fasa to his grandson, or just hanging back and enjoying the world around him. Louie is survived by his wife of 29 years, Nancy; children, Jordan and his beloved girlfriend Tanne Bratton, Lauren, and Kyla; grandson, Stetson; Mother Dora Sandoval, Father Presiliano Sandoval and wife Joanne; siblings, Jessica, Anthony and wife Mary, Peter and wife Cindy, Joyce, and Jeffery; sister-in-law, Mary Lopez; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. A rosary will be recited on Friday, February 2, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos with a memorial mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. The family of Louie Sandoval has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley. www.devargasfuneral.com - 505-747-7477
