Camilla Patricia Van Sloun, 93, affectionately known as “Pat”, “Patty” and “Aunt Patty” and to her working contemporaries as “Van”, born on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1924 passed away on  November 10, 2017 after a long and fruitful life.  She was the second child of her late parents Henry C. and Anna K. Van Sloun and sister to Maxine T. Burciaga, who preceded her in death.
She earned a nursing degree, graduating in 1945 from the College of St Catherine in St. Paul Minnesota.  Following school she had a 40 plus year career at St. Mary’s Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota doing what she loved most, caring for newborn infants as the head nurse of the St Mary’s Hospital Newborn Nursery.
Upon retirement she moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico to be near her sister, nieces and nephews.
She was a woman ahead of her time, always independent, a devout Catholic, an avid reader, baseball fanatic and would only purchase Pontiac automobiles, the first in 1949 and the last in 2006.  She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and remained a lifelong Minnesota Twins fan.
She is survived by nephews Ernesto V. Burciaga (wife Cecelia); Stephen V. Burciaga (wife Judy); Timothy V. Burciaga (wife Katie) and nieces Ann C. Johnson (late husband Clifford), Laurel J. Knobloch (late husband Paul); Susan P. Martinez (husband Rick), three great nephews/niece, four great-great nieces/nephew and longtime coworker Adelaide Charlton.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 11:00 a.m. at The Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Los Alamos. A reception will follow at the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers and in accordance with her wishes, the family requests donations to the charities of your choice.
The family Camilla Patricia Van Sloun of has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley 505-747-7477
