Bernie Elizida Gallegos, age 84, a resident of Hernandez went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 3, 2017 following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tobias and Martina Maestas; brother, Gusman Maestas; husband, Robert Gallegos; son, Jake; daughter, Maria; granddaughter, Melony Gallegos and B.B. Watson. Bernie was a very spiritual, kind, humble and generous woman. She was a loving mother, grandmother, Godmother, aunt and friend. She was a hardworking woman all her life. She loved the outdoors, fishing with her husband, hauling wood and camping. Bernie worked with the Hernandez Elementary School as a teacher’s aide. She was a member of the altar society at the San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez. She carried her cross well. Bernie never complained about illness. She adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, Godchildren, nieces and nephews. She is survived by her son, Robert Jr. and wife Linda, grandchildren, Arianna, Grace, Elizabeth, and Darla; great-grandchildren, Andy, Caleb, Josiah, Tommy, Marcus, Josiah, Damian, Isaiah, Jalene and Jeda; brother, Arsenio Maestas and family; brother in law, Phil and Virginia Gallegos and Mike and Barbara Gallegos; compadres, Leo and Lucille Maestas; close cousin Ida and Margarito War; and other loving relatives and friends. The family would like to thank Amber Care Hospice for the great service provided, especially Hisan and Ashley. Public visitation will begin on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez, with a rosary to be recited on 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. also at the San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez, with a burial to follow at the San Jose Catholic Cemetery. Assisting as pallbearers will be Andy, Caleb, Josiah, Noel, Archie, and Isaiah, Honorary pallbearers are, Tommy, Marcus, Damian, Josiah, Andres, Jerry and Tito.
