Priscilla Borrego Naranjo, 89, a resident of El Guique, NM passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 10, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
Priscilla was born in Chamita, NM to Patricio Borrego and Petrita Ortega. Priscilla attended the Allison James School in Santa Fe, NM and graduated from Menaul High School (MHS) in Albuquerque in 1948. Priscilla attended Chillicothe Business School in Missouri where she earned a Business Degree.
Priscilla married the love of her life, Genaro Naranjo (from Chimayo), a classmate at MHS in June 1950. They had their first child (a son), R. Mark, followed by two daughters, Letty Lanette and Eunice Inola.
Priscilla had strong values and brought up her children on the farm in El Guique which has been in the family for many generations. Priscilla loved and adored her grandchildren, Erika, Leila, Melinda, Santiago and Feliciano; her great-grandson, Landyn and expected great-grandchild.
Priscilla loved raising her children, baking, canning, roasting chile in the horno, gardening, home decorating and visiting with many cousins, family and friends. As her children got older, she chose to enter the workforce as an Administrative Secretary at San Juan Elementary School, followed by employment in Los Alamos at the Zia company and its successors. Priscilla retired in August of 1993.
In retirement, Priscilla found fulfillment in family and farm life by selling her and Genaro’s harvest at the local farmers markets. She cherished the company of her sister Rosella Jardine and husband David Jardine who reside next door.
Priscilla is survived by her children, R. Mark Naranjo and wife Jean of El Guique, Letty Naranjo of Chimayo, Eunice Naranjo and David Griego of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Erika Naranjo of Santa Fe, Leila Naranjo of El Guique, Melinda Nova and husband Oscar of Española, Santiago Naranjo y Lujan and wife Vanessa of Roswell and Feliciano Griego of Santa Fe, great-grandson, Landyn Lujan; sister, Rosella Jardine and husband David; nephew, Damon Jardine and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 11:30 am at the United Methodist Church in Santa Cruz. Burial to follow at 2:15 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
Pallbearers are, Erika Naranjo, Leila Naranjo, Feliciano Griego, Melinda Nova, Oscar Nova, Santiago Naranjo y Lujan, Vanessa Lujan, Landyn Lujan, Anna Gonzales, Damon Jardine and Anthony Naranjo.
The family of Priscilla Borrego Naranjo has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
