Jose Alfirio Lopez, 80, a resident of Rio Chiquito, passed away following a lengthy illness on Wednesday, February 28, 2018. Jose was preceded in death by his wife, Tonie T. Lopez; parents, Juan and Annie Lopez; siblings, Eldie Sandoval (Fred), Eurcilia Santos (Sergio), Julia Kallas and Ruben Lopez; sister-in-law, Tina Trujillo (Albino); brothers-in-law, Dimas Vigil (Dulcinea), Alfonso Trujillo, Reyes Trujillo and Esquipula Trujillo. Mr. Lopez is survived by his sister, Evila Trujillo; children, Velma Lopez of San Pedro, Floyd Lopez (Yvonne) of Albuquerque, Peter Lopez (Carolyn) of Rio Chiquito, Judy Sanchez (Michael) of La Puebla, Rachel Valdez (Joseph) of Rio Chama, Charlene Valdepeña (Rafael) of Albuquerque and Martha Espinosa (Kenny) of Los Alamos; Godson, Joshua Valdez (Dalene); grandchildren, Willie Montoya (Janelle), Marcos Montoya (Jermaine), Joseph Lopez (Delilah), Valerie Lopez (Jeff), Niko and Justin Martinez, Rechelle Rosales (Andy), Stephanie Gonzalez (Oscar), Victoria Maestas (Leo), Christopher and Mariah Sanchez, Jeremy (Kayla), Jessica (Justin) and David Valdepeña, Jessica (Sven), Joseph Jr., and Isaiah and Marina Espinosa; great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Anastasia, Aaliyah, Khloe Montoya, Delisha, Jolissa, Joella Lopez, Nikkoli and Anouk Lates, Waylan and Keinsleigh Valdez, Sebastian and Benjamin Gonzalez, Julian and Ezekiel Maestas; special friends, Alicia and Albert Rael; special niece Pita Trujillo and numerous other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Gary Giblin, Del Corazon Hospice, Jacob, Myra, Lynn, Tony, Mary, and Chaplain Hampton. Public visitation will begin on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo with burial to follow at the Rio Chiquito Cemetery. The family of Jose Lopez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
