Vivian Marie Goodman (Ekberg), born September 15, 1957, lost her battle against cancer on Tuesday, May 2, 2017.
Vivian, a loving wife, mother and friend to many was born in Los Alamos and grew up in Espanola, New Mexico. Vivian’s love of animals began early with the pleasure of horseback riding and caring for the myriad of family pets. She continued that love as a veterinarian assistant and humane society animal advocate and caretaker.
Vivian spent her early adult years in Oklahoma where she lived with relatives. In 1983, she married and began her own family in Aztec, New Mexico with Laura’s father Ron Bosserman. In 1991, they moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico. There she worked as a veterinarian technician and then moved to her work at the Animal Shelter/Humane Society.
Vivian married the love of her life Brian Goodman in July 2001. They met while working as animal advocates, he as an animal control officer and she as an employee of the Animal Shelter/Humane Society.
Vivian’s true loves were her dear husband, Brian and daughter Laura but her passion was fishing. She also enjoyed hunting, camping, pitching horseshoes, bowling and travel. One of her greatest adventures was her trip in 2015 to Alaska where she spent time with her nephew Caleb. Through perseverance and hard work, Vivian was able to achieve many successes throughout her life.
Vivian displayed an amazing courage and strength as she waged her nearly three-year battle without ever losing track of her wicked sense of humor. She lightened the mood in any room that she entered, even a Chemotherapy ward.
Vivian is survived by her daughter, Laura Bosserman, father, Ethen Ekberg, sister, Denise Ekberg (Eric), niece, Sarah Parks (Michael), nephew Caleb Ekberg, as well as many extended family members. Her loving husband, Brian Goodman, preceded her in death as did her mother Betty Ekberg and brother, Scott Ekberg. Friends and family will host a memorial in Las Cruces, New Mexico on Friday, July 14, 2017.
