ROSE ALARID, 63, a lifelong resident of Los Luceros, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017 following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her father, Fidel Alarid and numerous other loved family members. Rose retired from the New Mexico State Highway Department after 25 years of service. She was a class of 1971 graduate of the Española Valley High School. Rose was instrumental in spearheading most of, if not all of, the class reunions. She remembered every class member’s birthday and always coordinated birthday get-togethers and dedicating songs on the radio. She loved to travel, especially taking her mom everywhere. Her sense of humor will not be forgotten – Hamana, Hamana, Hamana. Rose adored her nephews and her only niece. She loved deeply, was loved, and will be missed. Ms. Alarid is survived by her mother, Toni Alarid of Los Luceros; sister, Cathy Alarid; nephew, Benjamin Bustos and wife Tina; great-nephews, Christopher and Mario Bustos all of Albuquerque; great-niece, Elle Bustos and her mother, Alissa Bryne, numerous beloved cousins, relatives and a host of friends. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial to follow at La Villita Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Christopher and Mario Bustos, Joseph Garcia, Nan Martinez, Octavianito Alarid and Christopher Vigil. Honorary pallbearers will be all the Española Valley High School Class of 1971. The family of Rose Alarid has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
