NAPOLEON “SONNY” SALAZAR, 78, a resident of El Guache, born on May 12, 1938 in Gallina New Mexico, and married Helen Salazar on May 9, 1970. Napoleon departed his family on Thursday, April 6, 2017 after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe I. Salazar, Sr. and Ramoncita Salazar; sisters, Mary Serrano and Carol Salazar; brothers, Leroy and Johnny Dennis Salazar; brothers-in-law, Lee Padilla, Roy Romero, Benny Serrano, Manuel and Juanita, Louis and Cenovia, Jose and Lousita, Frank, Evaristo and Gary Padilla; sister-in-law, Adella Montoya; Brother-in-Law Riley Edmonds, in-laws, Pedro and Isabelle Padilla; and brother-in-law, Frank Padilla. Mr. Salazar is survived by his wife of 48 years, Helen Padilla Salazar; children, Esther and Joe Martinez of El Guache, Johnny and Josephina Salazar of Rio Chama, Gerald and Eunice Salazar of Dixon, Ellena and Leon Martinez of Velarde, Fernando Salazar and Debbie Salazar of El Guache; grandchildren raised by him, Jared, Janae and her daughter Isabella; grandchildren, Joe Jr., and Maria, Everett, Eliza, and Daniel Martinez, Geraldine Martinez and Lawrence, Maricella and Micaerla Salazar, Julian Salazar, Amberly Salazar and Steven, Morgan and Kayla Salazar, Brandon Maestas, Adam and Joshua Martinez; great-grandchildren, Ayesha, Kenny, Patricia, Martin, Jeremiah, Joseph, Caleb, and Neveah; great-great-grandchildren, Kayden and Kaylie; Siblings Eloy and Marylou of La Mesilla, Julia and Archie Jaramillo of Abiquiu, Joe I. Jr. and Isabel of Hernandez, Betty Padilla of Tesuque, Alex and Mabel Salazar of La Mesilla, Theresa Romero of Espanola, Raymond and Theresa of Bosque, Lucy and Loren Abercombie of Youngsville, Danny and Claudine of Hernandez, Annette and Kevin Joseph of Colorado, Judy and Leroy Martinez of La Mesilla, brothers and sisters-in-law, Pete and Sally Padilla of El Guache, Mary Padilla of Ranchitos, Salamon Montoya of Peonia, CO, Modesta Padilla of La Puebla, Edna and Bill Schutz of White Rock, Ernestine Edmonds of Alcalde, Lita and Belarmino Martinez of Española, and Vickie Padilla of Alcalde. A rosary will be recited Monday April 10, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a wake to follow at 6:00 p.m. Memorial mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Española. Burial to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Joe E. Jr., Everett, Daniel, Julian, Adam, Joshua, Jared, Martin, Jeremiah, Joseph, and Caleb.
