Lonnie Duran

d. August 14, 2017

Lonnie F. Duran, 56 of Dixon, went to his Everlasting Life on December 4, 2016.  He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Eliza Duran, and grandparents, Abelino and Nicanora Duran and Fidel and Delfina Martinez. He first attended catholic school in Dixon, then in Los Alamos, and graduated from Espanola in 1978.  Upon graduation he left to Kansas and joined Ironworkers Local 10, then returned to Albuquerque where he completed his apprenticeship with Local 495. Soon after he began his life with “Gin,” they had their son and was lucky enough to retire from KSL in Los Alamos, finishing at TA-55 in 2003.  During this short but blessed life, he used his hands to ski, hold the wheel to his many cars, trucks, bikes, a speed boat, to climb the iron, weld, break his horse “Luger,” and train “Quinta” the family golden retriever.  His ability and skill to use many tools allowed him the opportunity to restore street rods and bikes.  If he taught us anything, it is how to treat a friend and be a part of a family.  He was a man of a different generation that came at the end of an era.  He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his amazing father, Clarence Duran of Albuquerque; his irreplaceable soul mate, Ginny Martinez of Los Alamos; and his legacy, his only son Reyes Duran of Los Alamos.  He is also survived by his oldest brother and mentor, Roger Duran; and sister by marriage, Kathy of Lenexa, Ks. He also has his other older brother and helper, Freddie Duran of Albuquerque; and his very close and amazing sister Linda “Lee” Archuleta and her husband (his brother and confidant), Willie of Albuquerque.  On his adoptive side, father-in-law, Bill Martinez and mother-in-law, Pana of Embudo; sisters-in-law, Patsy Olivas and her husband Mark of Embudo, Lydia Griego and her husband Jeff of Dixon, and Claudine Martinez and her companion Ben of Alcalde; nephews and nieces and their families; uncles, aunts and cousins with their quickly growing families who were blessed to grow up around him, and many friends. A rosary will begin on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 9:00 a.m., with a memorial mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos. Please join the family for a reception at Karen McLaughlin Hall immediately following the mass.  Burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Father Kupper Cemetery in Embudo. Serving the family as pallbearers are Mark Olivas, Joe Olivas, and Reyes Duran. The Family of Lonnie F. Duran has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
