JOE MARGARITO (MARGO) MONTOYA, 64, a resident of Vadito, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2017. He was born on October 9, 1952 to Juan Ariesteo and Maria Felonis Montoya who precede him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Lourdes Depew; grandparents, Nicolas and Piedad Montoya and Demecio and Amadita Romero; in-laws, Fernando and Ofelia Lopez. He was a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus and the Peñasco Volunteer Fire Department. He was a musician and enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing. Joe was a loving, outgoing person that touched every heart that came across his path. Mr. Montoya is survived by his wife, Bernice Montoya; children, Tanya (Fabian) Atencio of Dixon, Christine Stewart of Idaho, Josephine (Chris) Sanchez of Rio Lucio and Fernando Montoya of Vadito; granddaughters, Ashley and Elizabeth Atencio of Dixon and Marisol Serna of Rio Lucio; siblings, Modesta (Lawrence) Esquibel, Genevieve (Richard) Benavidez, Juan Montoya, Rosemary (Fred) Medina, Della (Alfred) Gonzales, Donald Depew and many other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Public visitation will begin on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Peñasco with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. also at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Peñasco. Burial to follow at the Vadito Cemetery with the following serving the family as pallbearers, Richard Benavidez, Fred Medina, Chris Lopez, Wayne Visarraga, Robert Lopez and Dennis Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be, Ashley and Elizabeth Atencio, Marisol Serna and Waylon Martinez. The family of Joe Margarito (Margo) Montoya has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
