DONALD MARGARITO ORTIZ, 50, a proud Marine Corp Veteran and a resident of Chimayo and Santa Fe, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 peacefully surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anselmo and Carol Ortiz; in-laws, Joe and Marti Baca; uncles, Louis Griego and Joe Medina and aunts, Dora and Viola Ortiz. Donald’s hobbies included extreme sports such as skydiving, race car driving and aviation. He also enjoyed football, skiing, mechanics and building model airplanes. In the presence of Donald, there was never a dull moment. He always enjoyed life to the fullest and projected that on everyone that surrounded him. Donald had a big heart and always put everyone else first. He had a soft spot for people in need and was always willing to help. The absence of a loving son, brother, nephew, cousin, father and spouse will leave a lasting hole within many, but he will always be in our hearts and our memories and will never be forgotten. Mr. Ortiz is survived by his wife, Anja Baca; children, Joseph Baca-Ortiz and Sara Sewart; brother, Bruce Anselmo Ortiz; sisters, Elizabeth “Beth” Ortiz and Francina Ortiz-Halbert and husband Kevin; aunts, Veronica Griego and Annabelle Hunt and husband Carrol and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a Memorial service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. also in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel, with a burial to follow at 2:15 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be, A.J. Lujan, Wayne Jones, Shane “Dude” Jones, Charles Romero, Curtis Abeyta and Kikko Baca. Honorary pallbearers named are, Robert Cortez, Abe Sanchez, Larry Medina, Max Baca, Ralph Medina, Brian Hunt and Daniel Myer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
