Donald L. Atencio, 52, a resident of Dixon, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2017. He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Ernesto Atencio. Donald worked as a Systems Operator for the Dixon Mutual Domestic Water Consumer Association and was avidly involved in the acequias. He enjoyed working for the Mesa Vista Schools and loved doing things for his community. Donald was a hard core Denver Broncos fan and loved telling jokes. He was well known for his red chile and no matter what he was doing, he was always listening to music. Donald loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed sports and took great pride in his kids and being a father. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and positive outlook on life. Donald was a free spirit and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Atencio is survived by his mother, Mary Atencio; children, Leorrie Atencio and companion Eric Watson, Donald Atencio Jr., Franco Atencio, and Leandro Atencio; step-son, Joseph Colombe; siblings, Jerry Atencio (Julia) and Wanda Madrid (Emiliano); nieces and nephews, Lakeisha Madrid, Kaitlynn Madrid, and Carlos Atencio. A rosary will be recited on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Dixon. Memorial mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. also at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, with a burial to follow at the Dixon Catholic Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers are Emiliano Madrid, Carlos Atencio, Arnold Suazo, Ricky Suazo, Percy Gonzales, and Amos Archuleta. Honorary pallbearer named is, Matthew LeDoux.
