Anacita (Sanchez) Martinez, known to everyone as Annie, passed away on July 22, 2016. Annie was born on September 12, 1929, to Abel and Pomesina (Cata) Sanchez at San Ildefonso Pueblo, New Mexico. Annie married Frank Cho Hay Martinez and they shared a happy life together, raising their four children. In addition to being a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Annie was accomplished and giving in many other ways. Annie obtained her Associate’s degree in Elementary Education and Bachelor of Science in Education, both from University of New Mexico. She taught Head Start for twenty years at San Ildefonso and was loved by many students. Annie also was a foundational contributor to Tunyo Women’s Club, a civic organization that supported the church and many activities at the pueblo. Annie was a 4-H leader for many years. Annie also contributed a revival of traditional sewing with her creation of beautiful ribbon shirts and dresses, receiving many awards for her work, which helped establish a category for traditional sewing at many arts and crafts shows. Ever the teacher, Annie taught many young women how to sew, both through 4-H and her involvement in the pueblo. Annie was famously known by many for her “Lemon Meringue Pie”

Annie is survived by her children Harvey (Denise), Rachel (Ray), Charlene, and Sherman, her grandchildren Allayne, Evren, Danielle, Alicia, Phyllis, Felisha, Angelica, Thomas, and Katerie, and great grandchildren Tylor, Lalani, Nathan, Jaelene, Joshua, Justyn, Nizhoni, Nia, Myles, Benjamin, Ava Monae. She is also survived by five brothers and sisters, including Ramos (Gerdy), Joe “Post,” Maggie (Mac) McReynolds, Marie (Dennis) Martinez, and Gilbert (Kathy) and many nieces, nephews and loved ones. Annie’s husband Frank, grandson Little Harvey Martinez and her parents predeceased her.

Wake service for Annie will be Monday evening, July 25, 2016 at 5 North Kiva Road at San Ildefonso, and mass will be Tuesday morning, July 26, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the church at San Ildefonso.  Annie will be buried on Tuesday afternoon, July 26, 2016 at 12:45 p.m. in the Santa Fe National Cemetery with Frank.

Pallbearers include her godchildren Leonard Pino, Leon Roybal, Dennis Martinez, Jr., Wayne Martinez, David Martinez, Janice Parker, PoTay Ortiz, and also include Nathan “Skate” Sanchez, Quinten Naranjo, Cory Shroloute, Guy Estes, and Bob Wilson. Honorary pallbearers include her “adopted sons and daughters” Ricky Quintana, Arnold Gabaldon, Rachel Machina, Jeanette Jagles, Brenda Gonzales, JP Montowine, Dennis Vigil, and Mike Perez.
